The Goodreads Book Tag

Hi everyone! Hope you’re enjoying your Valentine’s Day.

Here in Australia, Valentine’s Day is not really a big deal so it was another day of me snuggling up with a blanket, a cup of tea and a good book. Who needs a man anyway?

I was tagged by the lovely Kat @ Life and Other Disasters to do the Goodreads book tag recently. So thanks to her, and if you haven’t already, go and give her post a read!

the bronze horsemanWhat was the last book you marked as ‘read’?

The last book I marked as read was The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons. I really enjoyed this one, it had great historical aspects and of course, an addictive romance. I have a full written review which you can check out for all my thoughts.

What are you currently reading?the hating game

I’m currently reading The Hating Game by Sally Thorne. This one has been going around booktube and the blogosphere a lot recently and I have to admit, a hate-to-love romance always gets me so excited. So far, so good, I’m having a lot of fun reading this one!

What was the last book you marked as TBR?

That would be Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen. I’m kind of planning a big classic read this year and Jane Austen’s works will definitely be featured on that list. Gothic literature is becoming my thing!

the hate u giveWhat book do you plan to read next?

I plan to read The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas next, although I hate to set TBRs in general so this could very easily change. Of course, everyone’s heard about and read this book, I’m the last person on earth who hasn’t it seems.

Do you use the star rating system?

Yes, I do. Like every other person on planet earth, I’m begging for half stars to be introduced to Goodreads because I’m hella indecisive and exact. It ends up that I have so many books rated four stars because I tend to round up…I should start being harsher.

Are you doing a 2018 Reading Challenge?

I am. My goal is to read 21 books and so far I’m 5 books ahead and on track. Yay 🙂

Do you have a wishlist?

No, not really. I mean, I have a mental wishlist of books that I would like to get in the near future but I don’t really have it written down much. Often, I just consult my TBR shelf on Goodreads if I need reminding on books that have been recommended to me or just sound good.

What book do you plan to buy next?a little life

I plan to buy A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara next. It’s been recommended to me by a few people now, including my mother and Shelumiel @ Bookish and Awesome. I trust Shelumiel’s judgment so I’m going to pick this one up very soon.

Do you have any favorite quotes? Share a few.

I don’t really add quotes on Goodreads but I do happen to have a few on my profile, probably when I was just starting up.

From one of my favourite books, Jane Eyre, I have:

“Do you think I am an automaton? — a machine without feelings? and can bear to have my morsel of bread snatched from my lips, and my drop of living water dashed from my cup? Do you think, because I am poor, obscure, plain, and little, I am soulless and heartless? You think wrong! — I have as much soul as you — and full as much heart! And if God had gifted me with some beauty and much wealth, I should have made it as hard for you to leave me, as it is now for me to leave you.”

“I am no bird; and no net ensnares me: I am a free human being with an independent will.”

And from Harry Potter, I have:

“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live”

Who are your favorite authors?

I actually don’t really have many ‘favourite authors’ because I rarely find all the works from an author amazing and brilliant. Usually I have one favourite book or series and the others I’m not interested in or feel ‘meh’ about.

But I could probably say that some of my favourite authors come from my favourite series or books, such as:

  • -J. K. Rowling
  • -Tahereh Mafi
  • -Charlotte Bronte
  • -Marissa Meyer
  • -Sarah J. Maas

Have you joined any groups?

Haha yeah I joined groups way back in the beginning of my Goodreads account but I should probably leave them because I never contribute and I’m taking up wasted space.

This is quite an old tag I believe and many people have probably already done it, so I tag you if you would like to do this!

What books have you recently read or added to your TBR? Do you use Goodreads to track your reading? Let me know some of your answers to these questions in the comments!

Thank you so much for reading and I’ll talk to you in my next post!

  1. YAY! Great answers, Liam!! I don’t know how I could possibly forget Tahereh Mafi on my list of favourites, she is so brilliant!!
I really hope you will love The Hate U Give and also Northanger Abbey, I think it’s such an underrated Austen book, but that one and Persuasion are my faves.

  2. those JANE EYRE quotes!!!! ❤ ❤ and how exciting to focus on classic reads this year, Northanger Abbey is my least favorite Austen, just because I think it has a weak plot, but it's Jane Austen so it's not possible to be terrible 😀 my favorite of hers are Emma & Pride and Prejudice (of course). love this post!!!!

  3. “Who needs a man anyway?” HAHAHAHAHAHAHUHUHU. Also? “I should start being harsher” sounds like something Joey would instruct you to do. Lol. But yeah. You DEFINITELY need to pick up A Little Life soon and sob with me because THIS BOOK. It’s just so relentless and heart-wrenching but also beautifully written and hopeful. And I mean. Your mom recommends it as well. So. Good luck with the big classic read, Liam! And I’ll be keeping an eye out for your thoughts on THUG.
